Getting Around the Magnificent Mile

The Magnificent Mile is the stretch of North Michigan Avenue from the river up to Oak Street — the retail and hotel spine of downtown. The shopping anchors are the vertical malls (the Shops at 900, Water Tower Place) plus the flagship stores along the avenue, and the hotel density is the highest in the city: the InterContinental, the Peninsula, the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons up at Water Tower, the Conrad, the Drake at the north end. Michigan Avenue itself is no place to idle, so our drivers drop at the hotel chauffeur lanes and side-street store entrances and circle on call.

Tourist and visitor work is the daily bread here. The most common booking is an O'Hare arrival straight to a Mag Mile hotel, then a shopping shuttle that lets a group hit several stores and drop bags at the car between stops instead of hauling them up the avenue. Evenings turn into dinner-and-show transport — down to the theaters in the Loop or over to the steakhouses in River North — with the chauffeur handling the one-way grid so guests don't. We also run plenty of executive hotel pickups for business travelers staying on the avenue.

Airport timing leans on lower Michigan Avenue and the Ohio Street feeder to the Kennedy; O'Hare is a flat $130 sedan, Midway $130, with extra cushion during the evening crush when the feeder ramps clog. The trips visitors book most are O'Hare-to-hotel arrivals, multi-store shopping shuttles, and dinner-and-show evenings out of the avenue's hotels.
