What to Expect from O'Hare
The Magnificent Mile is the stretch of North Michigan Avenue lined with the city's flagship hotels, so a lot of these trips are business travelers and visitors heading straight to a room. The 17-mile run takes the Kennedy (I-90) inbound and exits onto Ohio Street or Ontario into the near North Side — 30 to 50 minutes, with the back half of the Kennedy slowing in afternoon rush. What's on the Mag Mile
The Magnificent Mile runs from the Chicago River up to Oak Street, and it's the city's shopping and hotel spine: the 900 North Michigan Shops, Water Tower Place, the flagship stores, and the landmark Water Tower itself that survived the 1871 fire. The John Hancock Center (now 875 North Michigan) and its observation deck sit a few blocks up, and the riverfront and the Tribune Tower bookend the south end.
Most of our riders here are checking into one of the dozen-plus hotels along the Avenue, shopping the holiday windows after the Lights Festival in November, or staying central for a downtown conference. It's walking distance to River North restaurants and the lakefront, which is why so many visitors base themselves here.
Why Not the Blue Line or Rideshare
The Blue Line from O'Hare drops you in the Loop, not on Michigan Avenue — so you'd climb out at Washington or Lake with your luggage and still face a half-mile-plus walk or a bus transfer north to the Mag Mile hotels. After a long flight, hauling bags across the Loop and over the river isn't the arrival a business trip calls for.
