Chicago Limo Driver Tip by Service Type

Royal Carriage booking

$0 expected

15% gratuity built into the hourly/flat rate. Driver receives the full gratuity from your invoice. Additional cash welcome but never expected.

Most other Chicago operators

15-20% of fare

Cash or app-tip at end of service. Standard 18% for routine service, 20% for excellent service. Tip on the pre-tax fare, not the total.

Airport flat-rate transfer (other operators)

$15-$30 cash

On a $89 sedan transfer: $18 (20%) is the norm. SUV at $129: $25 cash. Sprinter at $159: $30. Hand directly when driver helps with luggage.

Hourly charter (other operators)

15-20% of total

On a 4-hour wedding at $700: $105-$140 cash. Hand to driver at end of service. Don't tip per hour — tip on final invoice total.

Wedding day (any operator)

$50-$150 extra

On top of built-in gratuity, an additional $50-$150 cash for the chauffeur is customary if service is exceptional. Best man or groom typically handles this discretely.

Bachelor/ette night (any operator)

$30-$75 extra

Extra cash for handling late-night cleanup, mid-trip stops, or rowdy guest dynamics. Pool $5-$10 from each rider in the group.

Multi-vehicle event

$30-$50 per driver

Each driver gets their own envelope. Don't pool tips across multiple drivers — they don't share. Cash envelopes labeled with driver name and vehicle.

Weather emergency / problem-solving

$50-$100 extra

Driver navigated a snowstorm, helped change a flat tire, or resolved a routing crisis. Extra cash recognizes that 'going beyond' isn't covered in baseline gratuity.

When You Should NOT Tip Extra

Tipping is recognition of good service. Don't tip extra in these situations.

The driver is rude, late, or unprofessional — you don't 'punish-tip' less, you should report it to dispatch and request a refund of the built-in gratuity
Service was so poor you'd never use the operator again — same logic, document and dispute
The driver explicitly hints for a tip after being told gratuity is included — that's a contract violation
You're paying with corporate / business credit card and adding tips creates expense-report complications — built-in gratuity solves this

One Price. No Awkward Tip Math.

We build 15% gratuity into the hourly and flat rates. The price you book is the price you pay — no awkward end-of-ride math, no expense-report complications, no question about whether the driver was paid fairly. Drivers receive the full built-in gratuity. See our pricing guide or hourly rates for full breakdown.
