Family Car Options

For the family car at a Chicago funeral, the standard vehicle is a black stretch Lincoln seating 8-10 or a Mercedes S-Class for immediate-family only (4 passengers). The vehicle is led by the lead funeral home director’s vehicle and follows the hearse.

The stretch limousine is the typical family car. The Mercedes S-Class is the alternative for smaller families. Driver wears black suit and tie, no name tag, no overt branding.

Procession Coordination With the Funeral Home

Royal Carriage coordinates directly with the funeral home for procession order, route, and timing. The family doesn’t have to manage the driver — the funeral director communicates the timeline and the driver follows. For services with a 3-vehicle or 4-vehicle family procession, the Mercedes Sprinter or contact us runs the lead vehicle and additional Sprinters carry extended family.

For cemetery destinations more than 30 minutes away, hourly pricing replaces the standard procession flat rate.

Multi-Family Shuttle Planning

For larger funerals with 20+ extended family members traveling from a single hotel block, a Sprinter or 26-passenger mini bus runs as a family shuttle in addition to the lead family car. The shuttle does not enter the procession line — it arrives at the cemetery on its own route.

Typical Pricing for a 4-Hour Service

Prom pricing in Chicago for 2026: stretch sedan $135-165/hr (3-hr min), stretch SUV $185-225/hr, Sprinter $145-180/hr, party bus $215-275/hr. Most prom bookings run 5-7 hours.

Dress Code and Driver Conduct

Royal Carriage funeral driver protocol: black suit and tie, no greeting beyond the door, no small talk inside the vehicle, hands the rider into and out of the vehicle on request. The driver coordinates with the funeral director, not with the family directly. Pacing during the procession matches the lead vehicle exactly.

The fleet and funeral transportation drivers are pre-vetted for funeral work; we do not assign new drivers to family-car bookings.

How far in advance should I book a limo?

For Saturdays in May, June, September and October — book 60-90 days out. For Friday corporate runs — 1-2 weeks is usually fine. For airport runs — 24-48 hours is the practical minimum during peak season.

Is the price flat or hourly?

Airport runs are almost always flat rate. Event work (weddings, proms, nights out) is hourly with a 3-hour minimum on weekend evenings.

What’s included in the price?

Base rate + standard tolls. Gratuity (15-20%) is typically added separately, as is event parking. Bottled water is standard in every Royal Carriage vehicle.

What if my plans change?

Free cancellation 24 hours out for most events. Inside 24 hours on a wedding or event date typically forfeits the deposit. Airport runs are more flexible.
