Sheridan Road, North from the City
The North Shore is the string of communities running up the Lake Michigan shoreline from Evanston through Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, and Lake Forest. Sheridan Road ties them together along the water, while the Edens Expressway (I-94) and the Tri-State (I-294) carry the faster traffic inland. The split matters for airport timing: the closer-in towns — Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth — reach O'Hare in 25-30 minutes by cutting west to the Edens, while Lake Forest at the northern end runs 35-45 minutes. Midway is the longer haul from anywhere on the Shore, 45-60 minutes, since it sits on the far south side of the city.
These are not towns where you flag a car. Many addresses are set back on winding lakefront lanes and ravine roads where a driver who does not know the area will miss the turn.
